Argan Oil for Soap Manufacturers

In soap, argan oil is usually a premium oil used at a modest percentage or as part of the superfat. Soap makers need two things from a supplier: a grade that makes economic sense for the bar, and the data to calculate lye correctly.

Choosing a grade for soap

Saponification changes much of what makes a premium virgin oil distinctive, so some soap makers choose the grade primarily on cost and odour neutrality, while others keep a virgin grade for the ingredient story on the label. Tell us which matters more for your bar.

Data to request for lye calculations

Ask for these on the specification sheet of the exact grade and lot you will use:

ParameterWhy it matters
Saponification valueDetermines the NaOH/KOH needed; values vary with fatty acid profile.
Fatty acid compositionPredicts hardness, lather and conditioning contribution.
Iodine valueIndicates unsaturation — relevant to softness and rancidity risk (DOS).
Acid valueFree fatty acids affect trace speed and calculation accuracy.
